1 The London Daily News says that three 3 lines of telegraphic cable are to be laid, j 1 under the direction of Mr Cyrus W. Field. * One will be from San Francisco to Honolulu, thence to Midway Island, and thence to " | Yokohama, 5573 miles. Another will be i ! from Victoria (Vancouver's Island) to HakoI? | kadi (Japan), thence to Asiatic Russia, comj municating with Possiette, which is already ' | connected with St Petersburg. From Atcha, one of the Aleutian Isles, a line is to go to '? Yokohama and Shanghai, thus communicating with China, while from Yokohama a line : " is to go to Niphon, thence to Possiette (Ruse sia). It is estimated that 8463 miles will be ~ required from San Francisco to Poa3iette by the first line. By the other line, from Victoria to the same place, about 5244 miles a will be needed. Lines from Honolulu to °i Australia will join San Francisco and MclI bourne, touching at the Fiji Islands ; thence : lines will roach New Caledonia and Brisbane, a which is already connected with Melbourne, r. j Adelaide, and Fort Darwin (on the north n coast), and a contract has been made for a ~ | line from that place to Java. Java is already i in communication with India and China.
