The barque Premier, in endeavouring to get to sea at two o'clock yesterday morning, went ashore at a point near the entrance to the Heads. The wind failed, and the vessel went on the rocks stern foremost. She has since been abandoned. The underwriter's value the cargo at £3OOO. The vessel is insured in the New Zealand Office for £1,500. Another of the Maori prisoners died in the Hospital to-day. Caledonian shaves have risen to £lls, in consequence of rich finds having been made in an old drive. The Ohinemuri natives have found what is believed to be a rich quartz field. The ground will be open for occupation in the course of a few days. The cutter Flirt, from the Fijis, reports the death of Mr James Turner, formerly Councillor for Leith Ward, Duftedin. The same vessel also brings news of the murder of two settlers—Spier3 and M'lntosh—by the same tribe that murdered Mr Baker, the missionary. Three hundred whites volunteered to assist Thakombau to punish the murderers.
