PROROGATION OF THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.

After a session of nearly two months duration the Provincial Council was prorogued by His Honor the Superintendent on Thursday last. Soon after the Council assembled, a statement giving a summary of the business of the session was read by the Speaker as follows :

"Length of Session, 57 days: sitting days, 37 ; messages from Hi 3 Honor, 13; petitions presented, 70 ; notices of questions, 54 ; notices of motions, 317 ; bills introduced, 30 ; bills passed, 25 ; addresses and resolutions forwarded to the Executive, 154 ; papers laid on tlie table, including correspondence and reports, 125 ; divisions, 83 ; committees appointed, 16 ; reports from select committees, 40."

His Honor delivered the Prorogation Speech as follows : " Mr Speaker and Gentlemen of the Provincial Council—

" On behalf of the Governor, on the 14th day of June last. I assented to the Imprest Supply Ordinance, 1871, and nowassent to the following Ordinances passed by vou : —The Tnveroargil Athenaeum Ordinance, 1871; GoatNuisanceOrdinance, 1871 ; Sheep Ordinance, 1886 (Southland) ; Repeal Ordinance, IS7I ; Payment of Members Ordinance, 1871 ; Sheep Inspection Assessment Ordinance, 1871 ; Fencing Ordinance, 1867 ; Amendment Ordinance, 1871 ; Appropriation Ordinance, 1871-2.

"The following; Bills passed by you 1 reserve for the signification of tlie Oovernor's pleasure thereon : Hampden Mechanics' Institute Heserve Management Bill, 1871 ; Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Reserve Management Bill. 1871 ; Education Keserves Management and Leasing Bill, 1871 ; District Roads Compulsory Land-taking Bill, 1871 ; Clyde School Deserve Bill, IS7I : Hoads Diversion Bill, 1871 ; The Invercargill Reserves Leasing Rill, IS7I ; Ferry and Accomodation House Reserves Leasing Bill, IS7I ; Invercarnill v themeum Reserve Management Bill, 1871 ; Oamaru Drill Shed Reserve Management Bill, IS7I ; The Ot.igo Road Boards Bill, 1871 ; Sale of Land to Dunedin City Validation Bill, IS7I ; Dunedin Drill Shed Reserve Management Bill, IS7I ; l'ortobello School Glebe Exchange Bill, IS7I : Education Reserve Jacob's River Hundred Sale Bill, 1871.
