PROSPECTUS = OF = JEdjt Ei&ocate AND SIIOTOYER, MACEIOWN, & CARDRONA REPORTER: A Weekly Newspaper, to be Published AT ARROWTOWN EVERY FRIDAY THE FIRST NUMBER Will appear on FSIDAT, 26th MAT 1871. SUBSCRIPTION : 6/6 Per Quarter, Payable in Advance The projectors of the aeeow ADVOCATE have come forward to supply what has long been felt to be a want in the important District of which Arrowtown is the centre. They have done so in the full assurance of liberal support from the Commercial, Agricultural, and Mining classes of the community, whose interests it will be their earnest endeavour to advance. The time has arrived when this District desires and deserves a Journal of its own, which shall be not only a disseminator of news, but the Advocate of the rights of the Settlers. The resources of this extensive District require to be made known, as well as its wants. It is not too much to say that had the District possessed an independent journal,—an outspoken Organ of Public Opinion,—many of the evils from which the residents now suffer would never have existed, or would have been speedily extirpated. We shall consistently urge upon both the General and Provincial Governments the wants of the various localities included in our District. With our rich and wide-spread auriferous deposits, and the extent and fertility of our agricultural lands, we may, with ordinary industry and prudence, and ordinary attention to our requirements on tbe part of the Government, look confidently forward to a long period of general prosperity. Inspired by this belief, we intend to brin» the Arrow Advocate before the Public”; and while we promise to do all that we can to make known the wants and advance the interests of the place, we trust the Public will also feel it to be their interest to strengthen oiirhands, and accord us a liberal measure of support. Considerable space will be devoted to the discussion of Agricultural Topics, and Articles from the pens of experienced Agricultural Writers will appeaV from time to time. Mining Matters will receive adequate attention ; and all Hew Inventions or Improved Processes having reference to Gold Mining will be carefully chronicled. Market Reports. —The latest Stock, Grain, and General Produce Markets will be reported,—with the most reliable quotations. The value of this feature in the A dvocate will doubtless be recognised in the agricultural portions of the District. The latest Telegraphic News from all parts of the Colony, up to the hour of going to press, will be published in each issue ; and tbe English Mail News will be reported at the earliest possible time; The Advocate will afford an excellent Advertising Medium, as it will circulate widely through the entire Lake District, including Queenstown, Frankton; Shotover-j Skippers, Macetown, Cardrona, Ac. MATTHEWS & PENWIdKh Arrowtown, Monday, April 17; IS/1.
