GENTLEMEN, —As tho time is drawing nigh whou you shall ho called upon to elect a Councillor to represent your interests for tho ensuing Municipal Year, and as no person has as yet come forward who is connected either by property or country to solicit your suffrage, I respectfully recpiest your votes and interests on tho occasion. You all know my career in the Council for the past two years. Tho minutebook will bear testimony to my services. You will do well to inspect it, and compare tho relative merits of the other candidate and myself. Although living in another Ward, I hold a considerable amount of property in yours, and my motto is to faithfully represent the town and district of Cromwell. lam standing in opposition to a man who has neither property nor Nationality to recommend him. Ratepayers, you know I have never shrunk from giving an account of my stewardship in broad daylight. Look to our common interest. Notice is hereby given that the nomination of two COUNCILLORS to represent Bridge Ward and Kawarau Ward respectively (in the room of Crs. Burres and Kelly, who retire by rotation), in the Municipal Council for the year 1870-71, will take place at the Council Chamber, Cromwell, THIS DAY, Wednesday, 27th July, 1870, at 12 o’clock noon. The nomination of two AUDITORS for tho Corporation will take place at the same time. Nominations must be made in accordance with Clause XXIV. of “The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865,” and must be lodged at the Council Chamber before noon on the day of nomination. In the event of more than one candidate being nominated for either or both Wards, tho polling will take place on MONDAY NEXT, the Ist day of August, 1870.
