—o —■* The following letter from Mr William Fraser, M.P.0., relative to the proposed opening of a block of land for agricultural settlement at Hawea Flat, will be read with satisfaction. We shall uke an earlj opportunity of reverting to the subject:— 11 Earnseleugh Station, July Ist, 1370. “ Dkar Sir, —I must auologiso for nos replying sooner to your Setter enclosing tha petition for land at Hawes, The fact is, I was waiting to gat a dafluits reply from tha Government. 1 represented to them the urgent necessity of complying with the re-pent of tha petitioners, ta the land la in every way adapted for settlement, ami that 1 felt confident it would toe speedily taken up. lam happy to say that the Government are prepared to accede to your request, and have promised mo that tenders would be called for ns once for the survey of a block of land in the neighbourhood you indicate. I have done ail I can f6r you in the matter so far. Lot us hope that -the Government are also in earnest.
