Asse'nb'y, Wellington : The meiror.'al of the Mayor and CooncP'o's of the incorporated town of Cromwell Humbly Skewc u h!— That at a puVic meeting of the residents of this d'sliT'ct held here on Saturday last, the ISth inst., for the purpose of taking into cons'deoat'on the subject of commonage, the followng reso'ut:ous. [The resolutions referred to were pubHshed in tast week's issue.] Your memo'VisjS therefore; in accordance with tbo wishes of themee ing most respectfully beg leave to impress upon your honorable Houte, as strongly as possible, the absolute necessity of grant'ng to this district the area o* land asked for in thereso'uiion passed by the meeting ; and in do'ng so we will call your attention to the fact of this Counc'l having cont'nually, 'or the last two years, soke" eel your honorable House, and t le Provincial Council, to set apairi an area of land for commonage, always pointing out that unless the district had one of some erteu';, the residents who had cattle could not e r.ist, and consequently would be obliged to leave the distinct ; and it ha 3 as often been promised by the Provincial Council; they having said that they were in communication with Mr Loughnan, and ruado no doubt but that a suitable arrangement would be come to, and that Cromwe'l should have a commonage. Your memorialists trust that your honorable House will see that this very rapidly rising and important district must have a commonage, and that your sense of justice and right will cause you to insist on the Provincial Council laying off the area asked for .from Mr Loughnun's run, and pay him compensation at oner., so that this most 1 serious and vitiil question may be settled, and I the intense excitement which exists maybe ali layed. \ And your memorialists, as in duty bound, will 1 ever p:;iy, fcc
