SLUICING IN THE BANNOCKBURN DISTRICT.
Most of the miners who have been, en- W gaged on the Carriole Range reefs have re- U cently come down, and set in to work in,,;, * Pipeclay, Smith's, and Adams's Gullies. The near approach of winter has rendered this removal necessary, and work at the reefs will not bo resumed till spring. Pipeclay Gully is occupied from the Kawarau river to its head, and the mineya are making fair wages, now that water -is : plentiful. Wellings and party have cjut a race from this gully to some new ground.on the bank of the Kawarau, where (they 1 fl expact to do quite as well as any ofi the <\M sluicing claims on the Gorge side of the|/\l river. In the All Nations' claim, vork 1 is being steadily proceeded with. On the i deep lead, Bruce and party are busilj • en- f gaged in preparing their shaft, and con- j structing a whim, by means of which hey intend to work their claim AH"'* They were recently forced to aband( JK Q «r original shaft, in consequence of thMßpi- .. of air in many of their drives, souW of which, too, fell in to such a degree Jhafc they were twenty feet high in places, f his claim has paid tho lucky shareholders remarkably well, and with the increased facilities for working it which will be afforded by the erection of a whim, it is expected that the profits will be much larger than they have yet been.
