' Jano Wilson was charged by Sergeant Cassels with having exposed for sale, on the 21st December, a quantity of spirituous liquors and ale, she not being duly licensed in that behalf. • Mr Inspector Dalgleish stated that the shanty kept by the defendant was the most disorderly in the district. Not long ago she was brought up on a similar charge, but unfortunately it was not clearly proved. It was a case calling for strict measures.

Sergeaut Cassels, sworn, deposed that on the. .morning of Tuesday, the 21st December, he en-j tpnkl defendant's house, and found five men bai tjKe spree, two of whom were subsequently' brought up and fined for being drunk. On ex-j animation, he found a case of ale and a bottle of, brandy, and another case behind the counter, which had been emptied. He asked her ,how she came to have so much liquor on the premises and she said she thought she could sell ale as she had a business license. I seized some bottles of ale and a bottle of brandy, which I produce. Defendant said she did not sell the liquor. She had got it in for Christmas, and she was i " shouting " for some friends of her husband.' The men had come to her place from Mrs I&s's, and were drunk when they arrived.
