MINING NEWS.
Jin WARDEN fyke’s MONTHLY RE FORT. Umler date December 15, Mr Warden Fyke writes from Clyde as follows : “ (1) I have tbc honor to report that the district of Duustan is progressing favourably, and that the population continues to increase. “(•2) The quartz-reefs at Bendigo are being gradually developed, and when crushing power is available, extraordinary results may with confidence be anticipated. There are now live reefs in work— namely, Bendigo Beef, Aurora, Cololough’s, Alta, and Richmond. Each is believed to bo a distinct lode. In addition, application has been made for a prospecting claim in the Rise and Shine (lolly, about five miles beyond the above reefs, and in a very elevated portion of the district. The sample of stone submitted Ihc prospector—Mr James Wilson —dilfcrs in character and from any in the vicinity, being harder, and W bluisli white colour internally, and much oxidised C'i the exterior. The gold visible in the specimen is also of a coarser description thin that of the Bendigo Reef. “(;}) In all Bendigo (including the Rise anil Shine) there are now 52 claims at work undo! miners’ rights, and owned by 294 shareholders, There are also four leases (two granted and twi under application), which, when all in full work will employ 55 hands. The ground held am occupied by these sti companies (including tin leases) amounts to 12,800 yards lineal measure meut, equal tii seven and a ipuviter miles, j “(4) In other parts of my district new dis covorics are of constant occurrence. At Alexan draS claims have been taken up (all under miner’ rights), on the Alexandra Roof, on the road t Butcher’s dully. A prospecting claim has bee applied for on a new line of reef, in the vieinit of, and running cast and west parallel with, th Alexandra Reef. At Butcher’s dully, Rosundal and party have struck what appears to ho loader, running north and south. At (Jonrny’i Iverson and party have lost the loader, whic they had struck, but they have manfully suu , to a depth of SO feet, carrying the hack ai , casing all the way—landing there on a “horse i over which the back dips to the north, and tl ; casing to the south. They now intend to treu ' along the face of the leader, where the stone, 5 equal to that inspected by myself, will pay vc . well, and in the course of their operations, tli
