Lady Cranbourne, a big marc, held hor own whenever exhibited, and a winner with progeny on sovorai occasions. Lord Cranbourne was a very successful breeding horse, as also was Lord Salisbury. TO TRAVEL this season in the Inchclutha and Surrounding Districts, the Purebred Clydesdale Stallion ORPHAN BOY. ORPHAN BOY is a beautiful dark bay horse, rising seven years, and stands fully 17 hands high, with splendid feet aud pasterns, and good clean flat bone and is a very heavy horse. His sire, Wee Macgregor, v/on first and champion at Dunedin as a three-year-old, and was got by the celebrated Clydebank (imp.), out of Jean, by Lord Salisbury (imp.). Clydebank (imp., 4SI N.Z.5.8.) won 28 first, eight special and 12 champion prizes, as well as first for stallion and progeny. His prizes include: —First prize at Campbelltown, in i-cotland, in 1897; first and champion at Dunedin in 1898; first and champion prizes at Dunedin, Taieri, Milton and Balelutha shows in 1899; first and champion prizes at Taieri and first at Dunedin. ORPHAN BOY'S g-g-sire, Primus (8897 C.5.8.), gained as a three-year-old second prize at the Glasgow and Ayr open shows. G-g-g-sire, Prince of Wales (673 C.5.8.), won first prize at the H.S. show at Edinburgh in 1869; second at H.S. show, Dumfries, in 1870; first at H.S. show, Kelso r in 1872; and first at the Boyal Manchester i. 1869. G-g-g-g----sire, General (322 C.5.8.), won first prize at the H.S. show at Inverness in 1865. G-g-g-g-g-sire, Sir Walter Scott (797 0.5.8.), won first prize at the H.S. show at Dumfries in 1860, and the premium at tie International Show held at Battersea in 1862. G-g-g-g-g-g-sire, Old Clyde (574 0.5.8.), winner of third prize at the S.S. show, Abordoen, in 1858, and the premium at Haddington the same year. ORPHAN BOY'S dam, Queen, by King of the Clans, by Athelstane, won a number of prizes as a two and three-year-old, but died as a four year-old, when Orphan Boy was nine days old. G-dam, Jess, by Lord Salisbury (1205 C.5.8., imp.), who was never beaten in th" '•'-""" - ; ig, either in Scotland or New ud. It is enough to mention Lord Salisbury in any animal's pedigree to stamp them with the hall mark of quality, as he undoubtedly did more to improve the draught horses of New Zealand than any horse that ever landed on the shores of the Dominion. Bv the above it will be' seen that ORPHAN BOY is full of the very best blood Scotland ever produced He himself has taken a number of prizes, being first as a three-year-old at Euroa, and first and champion as a four-year-old at the same place. He stood out as a five- J year-old to let his stable mate win. | ORPHAN BOY travelled this district last season, and proved himself highly successful with his mares.
