LATEST STRIKE NEWS.
[Special to Clutha Leader.] WELLINGTON, MONDAY, 7.35 p.m. Fifteen firemen of the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Opawa yesterday left the" vessel, but were arrested and brought before the court this morning. They intimated they would refuse duty.. It was pointed out to them that such refusal would bo mutiny, rendering them liable to twelve months' imprisonment. They were put back on the vessel which they left. The vessel cleared the heads at one o'clock, and by three o'clock she was back in the stream. A launch with police went out and brought back fourteen firemen who hail refused duty and had been arrested. Another crew will be obtained, but thero will be delay. The United Labour Party (moderates) meet/ to-night to consider a proposal to endeavour to bring about a settlement on lines of working with strikers, but not with the Federation of Labour.
Strike leaders Bailey ami Fraser, who are under order to fiud sureties to keop the peace, are still in gaol.
