CORRESPONDENCE.
POMAHAKA DOWNS MATTERS. TO THE MHTOa. Bear Sir, —I notice your correspondent has given you an account of tho Pomahaka Downs social, etc. I do not know who your correspondent is, but he evidently does not know very much about what is going on out here. I see by his social report that he has singled out three ladies for all the credit in connection with same, whereas the real moving spirit of tho whole thing was Mrs T. IT. Erskinc, whose untiring energy is always put into anything in tho sbcial life of the Downs. She was the sole promoter of the social, to say nothing of Misses McGregor, Herbert and Cunningham, who also did their utmost to make it a success. I do not think it fair to leave these ladies out and give the praise to only a few. Of course, the ladies mentioned did their share towards it, and deserve credit for what thev did.
Also, I notice your correspondent's disparaging remark about Section 20, which I know is far from the truth, for while the last tenant has not perhaps been able to spell prosperity with the deal, it is owing to the unreasonable amount of trafflcing in Crown lands; but I know for a certainty that all the other tenants did very well indeed on the same section, but perhaps your corres* pondent has an axe to grind re same, _ Now for our school. He has not men' tioned that our teacher has only been with us for about four months, and the school was closed for over a month since ho came. I just mention this, as the remarks may give a bad impression of our teacher, who, I feel sure, is doing the best he can to bring our children on. —I am, etc., ONLOOKER.
