OWAKA SPORTS SOCIETY.
At a meeting Of the Ovraka Caledonian Society held on Saturday evening, November 8, the following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr Chas. Anderson; vice-presidents, Dr J. Stenhouse, Messrs J. Ford, J. Horan, J. Munro, F. Maginnes, A. Paterson, J. Logan, F. B. Hauptfleisch, C, P. Keen, W. Batchelor, J. Callahan, J. Dempster, J. McDougall, P. Horan, John Paterson, H. McKcchnie, P; Wilson, T. Latta, Marquet, M. Latta, R, Bernio, H. Latta, R. McLean, W. Titchenor; secretary, Mr W. E. Power; treasurer, Mr F. B. Hauptfleisch; auditor, Mr D. Wrattan; general committee, Messrs C. Ashmore, F. Hay, C. Hayes, A. Martin, W, Docherty, R. Rodgers, W. Mason, R. Laudells, J. Ewer, W. Callahan, P. Horan, A. Smaill, D. McLelland, R. Crews, M. Latta, G. Mason, P. Mason, C. Cooper and J. Morris. * It was decided to hold the sports on Owaka Show Ground on Monday, December 29. The following were elected to draw out the sports programme:—Messrs P. Horan, J. Munro, C, Anderson, J. Topping, C. Cooper, Win, Mason. It was resolved to register under the Athletic and Cycling Union.
Another meeting was held last Saturday night, wheu there were present Messrs C. Anderson (chairman), W. E. Power (secretary), J. Horan, R. Crews, W. Mason, J. Munro, P. Horan, H. Latta, J. Spinks and H. Spinks. The above-named were appointed an executive committee, with the addition of Messrs J. Ford, J. Topping, C. Cooper, C. Callahan, F. B. Hauptfleisch, J. Dempster, A. Smaill, W. Tobin, C. Latta, M. Latta and C. Hay. It was decided to engage the Kaitanga'ta Pipe Band for the day. A. M. Wylie, Port Molyneux, member of Otago Centre of N.Z. Athletic and Cycling Union, wrote giving advice and offering to assist the society.—Received with thanks.
The following were elected a ground committee:—Messrs C. Anderson, J. Topping, J. Ford, K, Crews, C. Cooper, J. Horan, J. Munro, H. Spinks and J. Spinks. Messrs J. Callahan, R. Crews, F. B. Hauptfleisch and A. Patorson, juur., were appointed to Arrange children's races at the sports. The matter of obtaining music for the sports (which arc to be held on Monday, December 29) was fully threshed out, and it was agreed to write to the Kaitangata Pipe Baud asking that a certain uumber of members play at the sports. The sports programme was completed, the total prize-money being £4O. The principal event is the Owaka Handicap (three distances, 100 yds, 220 yds and 440 yds), of £B, £3 antHl. Good money is also offered for chopping and sawing events.
