Prom Our Special Correspondent. TENSION DECREASING, A "SPECIAL" WOUNDED, WELLINGTON, Monday, 7 p.m. The strike situation grows less serious as the days pass. The waterfront is still guarded, and sufficient mounted police are held in readiness to check any outbreak that may occur. Mounted specials also patrol the city and suburbs to guard against intimidation of Arbitration labourers or drivers. The special force constabulary are now reduced, but a system is being adopted whereby volunteers may be readily mobilised in the country either for relief duty or reinforcements should the situation become serious. Disturbances are now rare, but one occurred in a city hotel this afternoon. Two special constables were addressed in abusive language, and one named Kilcuddie wa9 severely wounded by a glass thrown by a striker. The police arrested two men. DtfNEDIN PREPARATIONS. DUNEDIN, November 17. Dunediu City is quiet and orderly, and so also is Port Chalmers. Special constables are arriving to ensure protection to the Arbitration Union watersiders, who start work on the Moeraki to-morrow morning, or, at latest, Wednesday. There are 418 specials eworn in from the city and suburbs; 150 mounted specials are camped at Tahuna Park. Mr "Bill" Belcher is expected home on Thursday. Birch street wharf lias been strongly barricaded, and barbed wire has been freely used. The overbridge has been closed. SIX WEEKS' IMPRISONMENT. WELLINGTON, November 17. Richard Jones, who threw bars of iron at specials, has been sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment. Edward Colelough, charged with firing a revolver at a special, and James Hassett, charged with attempted murder of Commissioner Cullen have been remanded. The new union is now 700 strong. The Typographical Union has declined to strike. There is no danger of a coal famine. AUCKLAND EXHIBITION. AUCKLAND, November 17. There are 250 men at work on the Exhibition buildings.
