WASTE LANDS BOARD.
Wednesday, October 9. Present : The Chairman (Mr J. P, Maitland), and Messrs Clark and Bradshaw. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr J. Bain, applied to purchase 50 acres of land at the Upper Waitalri, on the Land Company's run, No. 23. Mr Cain, a ferryman, -wished to fence in a paddock and erect a store there. The Company did not object to the application. — Land to be put up at auction. Mr John Law applied to have an island on the Waikouaiti River, at its junction with the Kirikiriwhakahoro Creek, put up . at auction. " On the application of Messrs Connell \ and Moodie, for Mr Robert Andrew, for a saw-mill lease of 50 acres, behind section 2, block I, Woodlands, for two years I and a-half, license was granted, rent to be charged at 7s pel' annum. Messrs Donald Reid and Co. came before the Board respecting the adjourned application of Mi 1 , Hugh Calder, that a block of 12,000 acres on Runs 177 and 257 be thrown open for sale, or, failing that, that the Governor be requested to proclaim a Hundred in the locality in question. The Chairman said the land waa a terra nicognita to the Board, beyond the fact that the Surveyor had reported. soniQ time ago that it wv*s cold, poor, and sour. He suggested that two of the members visit it. The suggestion was agreed to, and it was resolved that the visit be paid at the close of the present session of Parliament. The Hawksbury Road Board wrote, stating they had passed a resolution that the Land Board be requested to record a road line across the Hawksbury lagoon, connecting blocks XIV and XXXII. The Chief Surveyor was directed to record the road in the question. | The applications of Mr Colquhoun, to ! purchase section 20, block V, Tuapeka | East, and George Gumming, to purchase section 6, block XI, Waikaka, were granted. • . , The application of D. Reid and Go., for George M'Kenzie,. to purchase 20 I acres, section 31, block I. Maungatua, j was declined, and the Chief Surveyor was ! instructed to arrange, when surveying tho reserve, so that the applicant should have access to his property. Mr George Cumming applied to purchase section 6, block 11, Waikaka, under deferred payment lease.— Approved. The Tuapeka County Council wrote applying that they may be empowered to a site for public pound or pounds for the County. — It was resolved that a plan of proposed site be furnished. Mr T. F. Frewen applied to lease section 5, block V, Lower Hawea, under clause 54 of the Act of 1872. — Granted. A proposal by the residents of Kapiti, that the rest of that township be subdivided and offered for sale, was refered to thr Chief Surveyor. The lessee of Run 415 (leased for ten years from the Ist October) having intimated his intention of abandoning the same, it was resolved to submit the run to auction at a yearly rent of Ll5O, the deposit to be forfeited. Messrs L. -and H. M'Millan's applications for lease of sections 40a and 40, " . block 11, Tuapeka West, under section 54 of the Act, were granted. : ; . Certificates for Gold mining in Tuapeka East were granted to J. Rouglma'n and ,/ others, W. Tolcher and another^ and H. L. Squires and another. , - , - 'The Board then adjourned. . ' ,
