RULE FOR BUYING WOOL.
The loss in scouring wool is very different in one flock of sheep from another. Soros greasy wools lose 60 per cent., others not 40 per cent, in scouring ; therefore the relative value of different clips varies mucb. To ascertain the value of wool in grease, first calculate the approximate loss in weight by scouring, then divide the price, adding a cypher to the pence value, by the weight of wool after scouring; the product will give the value of the wool when scoured. Example : Say you are offered 100 lbs greasy wool at 7d a lb * it is very dirty, and you estimate it will lose 60 lbs in scouring, leaving you 40 lbs to sell — what price must you sell at per lb to pay you ? 40 lbs^ f *' /^ ( a(^ t *' cos * °^ scour ing. which ) 7.0 \ makes tho wool worth 19Ad) 300 280 2 4 Or, say the wool will only loose 40 lbs in scouring, you can afford to pay lOd alb for it, yet sell at 18fd — . 6-OVq'q \\S>\ (add 2d, cost of scouring) 6* 40 36 4 6
