PRESENTATION TO REV, H. L. GILBERT.

o A deputation waited on the Rev. H. L, Gilbert (formerly of Milton) at his residence, Livingstone, on the 15th July, for the purpose of presenting him with tho sum of twenty-one guineas, subscribed by friends in the district in which he labours, in token of then* esteem and appreciation of his services, and with a view to providing him with a horse. Mr Gilbert, in thanking the deputation, said it was very encouraging to him to find his labours acceptable, and something of the samo spirit of cordiality which was accorded him during his" residence in the Papakaio district existing in his new field of labour. He was confident the amount had not been raised without considerable effort on the part of the Committee, owing to the very scattered nature of the district, and he therefore felt at a loss to thank them in adequate terms for the sympathy and interest they and the subscribers had evinced. The Upper Waikati Presbyterian Mission includes Livingstone, and extends from Duntroon to Lake Ohau, across tho Waitaki into Canterbury, and covers an area of more than 2000 square miles. Ifc is probably the largest field in the Colony worked by a single mission. Intending subscribers to this fund are respectfully informed that the list is still kept open, , in consequene of unforseen circumstance* having delayed the returns from remote parts of the district, and that donation a will be thankfully received by -Mr -' J .
