WYNDHAM PLOUGHING MATCH.

♦ The annual ploughing match came off on the Wyndham Recreation Reserve on July 00. There was not such a turn-out of competitors as might have been expected had the season been good and ploughing in tho district more advanced. There was a good attendance of spectators, who took a lively interest in the competition. Five double-furrow ploughs and four single could not be expected to make a great show. The work upon the whole was tolerably done, considering the nature of the ground. The ground operated upon was tussock, and rough tussock land too, despite the expenditure of L 8 paid by the committee for tussocking. The committee could not obtain a lea paddock anywhere, hence the necessity of having recourse to the tussock. The following is the PRIZE LIST: Double-furrows, Seniors — Ist prize, L 5, J. Anderson ; 2nd, L 3, A. Muir ; 3rd, L 2, A. M'Kinnon ; best finish, 10s, A. Muir ; best outs and ins, 10s, J. Anderson. Double-furrows, Juniors — Ist prize, George Milne. Single-furrows — Ist prize, L 5, A. Christie ; 2nd, L3, Wm. Hamilton ; 3rd, L 2, James M'Lean ; best break, 10s, W. Hamilton ; best finish, 10s, A. Christie ; best outs and ins, 10s, J. M'Lean ; best ploughed lot on field, 10s, A. Christie ; best decorated team, 10s, A. Reid. Special Prizes: Best team of three mares or geldings, the bona fide, property of one owner: pair of watertight boots, gift of Messrs T. and J. Lunny — Geo. Morton. Best team of two mares or geldings, the bona fide preperty of one owner: set of swingle-trees, gift of R. and A. Eadd — John Brand. First finished prize-taker: pair of long leggings, gift of J. Templeton and Co. — J. Anderson. Youngest ploughman on the field: black waterproof coat, gift of Messrs Laidlow and Barr — Geo. Milne. Best kept harness, three months in use: cart whip, gift of J. W. Winter — J. Anderson. Best groomed horses: currie comb (gift of A. Crombie) and pair of double-furrow socks (gift of A. Matheison) — A. Reid. Oldest ploughman on the ground: arm ! chair, gift of R. A. Elliot — A. Christie. Added to first prize, Junior Class: book valued at 10s, gift of Mataura Ensign — Geo. Milne. The dinner came off in Messrs T. and J. Lunny's, which was well attended, and equally successful as the ploughing match, and the usual loyal and patriotic toasts were given and responded to. Mr John Milne, Farmer's Arms Hotel, had a booth with refreshments on the ground.
