The Bank reserve is considerably weakened by foreign withdrawals. Australian securities continue to be characterised by great strength. Consuls dull at 95f. The -wool sales closed with a firm tone. The general average shows an increase of from 10 to 12 per cent, on the opening rates. The principal advance was in medium. Tor Australian scoured fleece, washed and greasy, the prices were unsteady. The corn market is heavy and inactive. A million quarters are afloat. Consols, 95§ ; bank rate of discount, 3| per cent. ; market rate, 3 per cent. ; securities and wheat, unchanged. Flour, 355, The wool sales have closed. 310,000 bales were catalogued, whereof 43,000 were held over until next sales, and 155,000 bales exported. The next series will commence on August 20. The total quantity to be offered is 330,000 bales. Bekxest, July 5. The European Congress has agreed to maintain the treaty stipulations prohibiting the passage of the Dardanelles by foreign war vessels ; to cede Batoum to Russia, and make Batoum a free port.
Russia restores to Turkey the Bayazid Valley and Alashgerd.
