THE CATLINS ROADS.
TO THE EUITOB. Sir,— This last election for the members of the Road Board ought to be a lesson to one or two of our busy individuals, who, by their would-be smart actions, make tbe people of tho district look foolish to the outside world. I hope the members who are now legally elected will bo able to give a good account of their stewardship, as there is plenty of room for improvement throughout the district. Owing to the late bad weather, a great deal of' work recently done will have to be done over again. There is one thing I would draw their attention to aud ask them to alter, viz., the very objectionable way that has hitherto been practised of leaving the works required to be done until the latter part of the summer. If they would take steps as soon as good weather comes to get whatever work was wanted pushed on, then that a good deal of traffic would pass over the newly-formed portions before the winter comes. The roads would then be better able to stand the wet weather, and the money spent would be of some service, and the work would not be a mud-puddle, as it is at present. Trusting they are not too pround to take a hint from the foregoing, — I am, &c, Settler. Catlins River, July 8.
