brings news of a terrible revolt of native? in the interior of New Caledonia, aboul 90 miles from Noumea. Up to the time of the vessel leaving, 85 bodies of victims were found, terribly cut and hacked. Th*. majority of the victnns are French colonists. The friendly natives are helpins the gendarmes to suppress the revolt. Col. Passebore, commanding the forces, who went against the insurgents with a detachment of troops, was wounded, and died within three hours. London, July 8. Ministers have confirmed the conclusion of a treaty with Turkey. Congress continues. While Russia retains Batoum, Ardahan, and Kars, the Turks promise reforms, and England is to occupy and administer the Government of Cyprus forthwith. Major - General Sir Garnet Wolseley, X.C.8. , has been appointed Governor. Congress is occupied with the limits of the Bulgarian frontier.
Reuters Special. London, July 9. Cyprus remains part of Turkey, and the surplus revenues are payable to the Sultan. The British will withdraw on the restoration of Batoum, Kars, and Ardahan to Turkey, by the Russians. The Press generally approve warmly of the arrangement, but the Daily News condemns it. The Channel Squadron has gone to Cyprus. The Home Minister, in reply to a question, said that Russia retaining Batoum, a defensive Treaty of Alliance had been concluded "between England and Turkey, and the Porte cedes Cyprus. England will forthwith occupy, and Sir Garnet Wolseley will administer the Island.
