Referring to Sir George Grey's praisworthy attempts to crush the initiation of a Brummagem and shoddy aristocracy in New Zealand, the London Echo says : — " The Prime Minister of Few Zealand appears to be a sensible man. He has delayed complying with the request of the Governor, who wishes to have official notification in the Colonial Gazette of the fact that the title of ' Honorable' has been conferred upon Judges Chapman and Gresson. The Premier, who bears the honoured name of Grey, mindful of his own name and of the dignity of his office, declines to recognise ? a sham aristocracy.' The craving for titles develops itself very curiously in new as well as in old communities, and there is now more credit to be obtained by the refusal' than by." the" acceptance of titular honors."
