WASTE LANDS BOARD.
I Weonesday, May 5. Present : The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), and Messrs Clark, Green, and Bastings. Messrs Gillies, Street, and Eislop, for J. C, Thomson, asked permission to convert section 9, block 11. , Waikaka, into freehold instead of obtaining lease for same as formerly requested.— Applicant to be allowed to purchase. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for J. M'Farlane, applied for timber sawmill license, under tho 86th section of the Land Act, 1877, for 80 acres of land immediately behind sections 70 and 71, block XL , •Glenkenich district. — Ranger to be requested to report. Mr William Sarginson applied for a renewal of his license for land adjoining section 5, block XXXI, Kaitangata district, under the 149th section of the Land Act, 1877. — License to issue for one year, at Ll per annum, under clause 86. Mr J. Mackenzie telegraphed asking the Board to postpone the sale of section 36, block VI., Waikaka, until a petition be receiyed from settlers requesting that the same be reserved for peat. — Read. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Herbert Howat, and Co. , applied for a sawmill area of 80 acres immediately behind sections 60 and 69, block XL, Glenkenich district, and south of J. M'Farlane's application. A letter was read from Mr H. Driver, objecting on behalf of the settlers to the application, being granted. — Ranger to be requested to report. Messrs Connell and Moody, for Mr Robert Smith, applied to purchase land opposite section 11, block 11., Waikaka. — Granted, subject to necessary roads. The Chief Commissioner recommended the Board to cancel Mr D. O'Brien's deferred 'payment license, No. 318, section 2, block IX., Glenkenich, he having neglected to up-lift the same in terms of the notice served upon him. — License to be cancelled, and land reopened. The following applications to lease under deferred payments were granted : — John Burke, section 29, block IX. , Waikaka ; Jane Irvine, section 1, block XL, Waipahi ; James Irvine, section 26, block. IX. , Waikaka ; John Hunter, section 8, block X., Waikaka; Michael Quatter. section 33, block IX., Waikaka ; John Gumming, section 21, block IX., Waikaka ; S. Gaw, jun., section 32, block IX. , Waikaka ; James Clement, section 22, block IX. , Waikaka ; James Chittock, section 36, block I, Chatton ; Benjamin Chittock, section 37, block I, Chatton ; John Lumsden, section 10, block X. , Waikaka. . Mr James Robertson and family applied to purchase section 18, block IX., Waikaka, under the Immigrants Land Act. A report from the Ranger was read stating that the conditions had been fulfilled. — Application granted. The applications of Mr James M'Harvey, section 11, block V., and James Findlay, section 24, block VII., Greenvale, were granted. The Board considered the application of Mr Driver, for Mr D. A. Cameron, to purchase two small pieces of land adjoining section 4, block IV. , Glenkenich district. — The Board resolved that the section applied for, containing about 15 acres, should be sold, as land of special value at L5 an acre.
