WASTE LANDS BOARD.

-ft Morning Herald. The regular weekly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held on Wednesday. Present : The Chief Commissioner, Mr J. P. Maitland (in the chair), Messrs A. C. Strode, H. Bastings, H. Clark, J. Green, and J. W. Thomson. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed, * Messrs Connell and Moodie, for tho New Zealand and Australian Land Co., applied to have 80 acres west of and adjoining section 1, block V, 54 acres, north of and adjoining 2, block VI., Rankleburn district, surveyed and offered for sale by auction at 20s per acre upset price. — Approved ; applicant to deposit the survey fees. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Dickson Brothers, applied for the Board's decision concerning their application for sawmill area of 160 acres, block VII. , Glenomaru. Sanger Hughan's report on the subject was received. ---Provisional license to issue under section 90, for tliree years, at an annual rent of 7s per acre. Mr Henry Jackson asked that when section 70, block XIV. , Glenkenich district, is offered for sale, he be allowed / valuation for house erected by him thereon. / ■ — The Board did not see its way to assist j the applicant. / Mr John Morton applied for a lease of one acre of land on section 17, block Vl(, Chatton district, adjoining and west /of Moro's area, for brickmaking. — Applicant to be requested to furnish survey of land applied for. Messrs Reid and Duncans, for James Gall, applied to purchase 1000 rcres around his pre-emptive right of 92 acres on run 327 — applicant agreeing to cancel ' his lease over that portion of his run situate between Waikaia River on the east and his present application and pre-emp-tive right on the west. The Commissioner said that the applicant's license would have to be cancelled and the land throAvn open for application. Mr Strode: That is the only course that can be taken. It is as clear as possible. The Board declined to comply with the applicant's request. Messrs Reid and Duncans, for James Smith, applied for refund of survey fees paid by him on 3500 acres of land at Waitahuna, latelypurchased bj'-him at auction. The Commissioner having explained that the usual practice had been observed in Mr Smith's case, Mr Reid immediately withdrew the epplication. Ranger Hughan reported on the application by Messrs Cargill and Anderson to purchase section 15, block 111. , Toi Tois. Messrs Connell ar.d Moodie applied to have Messrs Cargill and Anderson declared the purchasers. — The application was granted. The Chief Surveyor forwarded a memo, concerning the quality of the land in the Warepa Hundred. Mr Clark said he and Mr Thomson had been over the ground, but the lease did not expire until the 28th August, and they were not yet in a position to report. The Commissioner : It wa3 proclaimed a Hundred a yef-r ago. The lease was cancelled. Whenever land is proclaimed a Hundred the lease is cancelled. Mr Clark promised that the Committee would report on Wednesday next. • Mr Bastings moved—" That 200 acres of land at Tuapeka Mouth be surveyed into 10-acre sections and be opened under the agricultural lease system." Mr Clark : I agree to that. Mr Basting 3 : It is part of the Waitahuna Hundred, and it has been kept free from being thrown open on account of being auriferous. The Commissioner : Don't you think it would be matter for the Warden first 1 Mr Bastings : The Warden is with us j he recommended the same thing. . *. Mr Green .-Perhaps it would be well to open it under the deferred payment system. . . * The Commissioner : Why not open it ! for sale ?
