BOROUGH COUNCIL.

* : ♦■ '- A special meeting of the Balclutha . Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Monday evening. There were present — his Worship the Mayor, vand Messrs Hogg, Dunne/ Macdonald, and Doull. . His Worship explained that the object ■of the- "meeting was to rescind a former vresolutioiiof the Council that all works exceeding L 5 be let by tender, and to consider a recommendation ahd report by the Works Committee. On the motion of Mr Dunne, seconded by Mr Doull, the resolution above referred to was rescinded. • His .Worship, on behalf of the Works Committee, recommended that Baxterstreet be formed and. metalled by day labour from Douglas-street to Barr-street ; also, that the fences be removed from off Stewart and Argyle-streets. . The Committee reported that a culvert had been placed in Pakefield-street. The report was received, and the recommendations adopted. The day-man was appointed inspector of the" contracts now in progress. A conversation ensued as to the necessity for having all sections within tho township adjoining streets fenced. A general opinion was expressed in favour -• of a motion heing passed to this effect, but no definite action in the -matter was taken.* There was no other business.
