EDUCATION BOARD.
The usltal monthly meeting bf the Board ¥/tk held on Wednesday. Present: Messrs Gfe'een (in the chair), Gillies, and Professor Shand, Claims for two- thirds of repairs by Wmtppeka., One Tree point, Wetherstoues, and Inch ClKthit schools were postponed till all similar applications are dealt with. , Applications for the establishment of "n-ew schools at Pembroke and Crookstou were referred to tho Inspeotor. The tiecretary whs directed to intimate that it will be neces ary to get the dis* tricts proclaimed school district. Tho following appointment of teachers as mad-e since last meeting were approved : Middle tochbol, Miss Mary M'Laren ; Albany street School, Miii Liliias Fowler ; Cromwell, Mr Thomas A. WaU kor ; Tuapeka Mouth, Mr T5 M. S.-ott ; « aea* brian, Mr W. M. Stack ; Macetown, Mr J. G*. CIo-js ; Wetherstone, Mr Langley Pope. The Secretary wfts instructed to forward a circular ifc school committees and to teachers calling theitf attention to the proper mode of procedure tinder the new Education Act in the casts of appoint* ment, resignation, aud dismissal of teachers. The interpretation of the Act is that school committees must intimate any requirements they may have to the Board, who will take all necessary steps to supply the vacancies, The following, resignations were accepted :-•-> Oamnru, Mr John Thornton ; Tuapeka Mouth*, MrLaugly Pope; North Blueskin, Mr James H. Pope ; South School Miss M. A. Smith. A telegram was read from the Secretary td tha Educational Department at Wellington, intimating that the Governor had sanctioned the ap* pointment of Mr Green as Chairman of the Board. The Board decided to remit to tho Finance Com* mittee the cpnsideration of the allocation of the funds placed at tho disposal of the Board fdc school buildings, and also to recommend an in* teiim plan for the payment of teachers vp 'to* tho time of the coming into dfHce of the now BotuU — the Committee to l-dport at next meeting. Mr H. ClsArk V aited on the Board and mcii* tioned tho necessity existing for increased aooth* modation at tiie Milton school, He said the immigration barracks could bo used temporarily with advantage, if the Government would.alluw such to be done. •Ho also Stated that the schi>ol required a female teacher.— The Board decided to ask tho Government to grant the use of tha barracks as desired. The appointment of the teacher was deferred, The Board adjourned till Wednesday first at 4 p.m.
