WAITEPEKA.
More interest than usual was taken in the election of the School Committee on Monday evening. Mr Dalgliesh was called to the chair.
The Secretary and Treasurer read the report of the retiring Committee, from which we gather that the school buildings are insured in the Standard Insurance Company for £509 ; some repairs have been made to the school and fences, and there is a balance of a few pounds still in their favour.
Twelve gentlemen were nominated for the new Committee, viz. : — Messrs John Somerville, Dalgliesli, Grant, Brown, Quertier, W. Morton, Stewart, Mackenzie, Mercer, Chalmers, Robinson, and Veitch. A ballot was taken, when the first seven of the above mentioned were declared by the Chairman to bs duly elected members of the School Committee for the ensuing year.
The Chairman intimated that the first meeting of ths new Committee would be held on Friday first, at half -past 7 p.m. , in accordance with the Act, to nominate two persons eligible as candidates for election to the Education Board.
A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
