WASTE LANDS BOARD.

* The usual meeting o£ the Board was held on Wednesday. Mr W. H. Cunningham requested permission to surrender section 30, block X. , Grlenkenich, and to be allowed a refund of his deposit. The surrender was allowed, but the refund of the deposit was refused. F. P. Smith, on behalf of the Chatton Progress Committee, requested that section 3 and 4, block XIV., Chatton district, might be reserved as auriferous. It was resolved that section 14 should be reserved from sale. Mr Paeey applied for a lease of the remaining portion of section 24, block HI. , Ohatton district, for grazing purposes. — Declined. The following applications to purchase under agricultural leases were dealt with : —Thomas Murray, sections 8 and 9, block IX., Tokomairiro.. — Declined on account of the auriferous nature of the land. J. F. Kitchen, section 10, il, and 12, block IV., Crookston. — Approved, The following application to exchange an agricultural lease was approved :— John Barr, section 24, block IV. , Crookston. Mr Bastings moved — " That in future, when the Board intends to cancel any deferred payment lease, the holder bo summoned to attend the Board, and to show cause why such lease should not be cancelled." The Chief Commissioner and Mr Butterworth thought the present was an inopportune time to move the resolution, and it was deferred. Mr W. H. Pearson, Chairman of tho Directors of the Maiauva Paper Mill Company, appeared before the Board to ask for a re-conoideration of a resolution carried at last meeting of the Board. After disoussion, the Board decided to grant tho Company, the right of erecting the flour mill on either side of the river, and to extend the time of its erection to January Ist, l&f^ It was also resolved that instead of sending Mr Somerville down to inspect the building, the Chairman of the Company be asked to supply extracts from the books, and to make a statutory declaration as to the coat oCtho by Hidings and. improvements, tind the; value. thereof,. .... . . * . r
