PUERUA.

[from a correspondent.] An evening's entertainment of a miscellaneous and eujovable description was carried out on i'uesdiiv evening hist in the burn of Messrs Simpson and Watt. A committee of six gentlemen arranged everything, and so satisf-e---tonly did they manage, that the affair proved nn unqualified success which is all the mure gratifying, seeing- that the ticket money, which amounted to nearly 4 c7, goes without deduction to augment (he funds of the Benevolent Institution ofUtago. Mr Jowitt kindly officiated as chairman, and fulfilled tue duties of his office in a highly satisfactory manner The proceedings commenced by the company indulging in an ample supply of well-bivwed fni, and capital cakes, find other delicacies, after which, a considerable nuuilvt' of songs, both comic and sentimental, were sung by several ladies and gentlemen, which, from the amount of applause attending on the same, seemed to give much satisfaction. (Comparisons are inodorous, if not. positively odious, and where each vied with ptich other to enhance the enjoyment, of the assembly, ie would be invidious for me to particularise, but I may perhaps be permitted t.o say that Miss Greyshas a sweet melodious voice, and that Mr Hoscoe, in his soarings " from grave to gay, from lively to severe,' 1 covered himself with laurels. And, talking of laurels, I must not forget to mention that the room was most tastefully decorated. About eleven o'clock the dancers took possession of the floor, Mr Alex. Anderson acting- as master of ceremonies, lively and appropriate music being discoursed by Messrs Geo. Hay, Sheddan, and Anderson. The votaries of the mazy dance kept up with spirit their saltatory gyrations till the dawn, when, mutually well pleased, they wended homewards their various ways!
