THE FATAL ACCIDENT TO MR J. BORRIE.

o The North Otago Times says of this sad accident : — " We are sorry to have to state that Mr James Borrie, a wellknown and respected settler, residing at Papakaio, met with a violent death ou Saturday, while on his way home from Oamaru All that is at present known of the sad affair is as follows :—Deceased had been in town d.uring the day, and drove homewards in his buggy. He was last seen alive by Mr Thomas Duncan, to whom he was conversing, opposite Mr Thomson's blacksmith's shop, Pukeuri Point. He then drove on in the direction of his home. At about 6.30 p.m. the brother of the deceased, Mr Donald. Borrie, who, we understand, had also been in to Oamaru, and was driving homewards with his family, noticed, after passing through the cutting at Pukeuri Point, a buggy upset by the roadside, and on going over* to it, discovered his brother lying near it, quite dead. Dr Fleming was sent for, and exmined the bodyj but found life quite extinct. There were several bruises about the head. The deceased leaves alarge family of orphan children, their mother having died only about two years ago. [The public in this district will regretto know that this gentleman who met with the fatal accident above referred to, was brother to Mrs Joseph Robertson, the Gask, Kaitangata.]
