MATAU ROAD BOARD.
* The usual monthly meeting of the Matau Boad Board was held on Saturday last. There were present : Messrs Inglis (Chairman), Mosley, Anderson, Smith, and Bell. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Arnold appeared before the Board in reference to the bad state of a culvert near Dickson's, Inch Clutha, and asking the Board to clear out a ditch adjoining his property, complaining that in time of flood the water overflowed his land and destroyed his crop. It was resolved to clean out the ditch by day labour. A letter was read from Mr Joseph Robertson, Gask, asking permission to place a gate across river road-line leading to his property, near the punt, Kaitangata, to prevent horses and cattle from destrying- a young thorn hedge. Moved by Mr Smith, and seconded by Mr Anderson, that permission be granted. A letter was read from Mr Dunnet, late lessee of Kaitangata Punt, enclosing LBBs as balance of punt rent. The amount of balance being LlO, Dunnet held Ll 12s for four days' labour claimed. The Board agreed to admit the contra and settle the account. A letter was read from Mr W. Bisslt, Kaitangata, re rates for 1876 and 1877, for house and land, Inch Clutha Sub-
division/ Mr Bissit stated that he was not indebted to the Board for said rates," having left the property before the rates were struck. The Clerk was instructed to apply to the owner, Mr William Carson, for the rate The following lowest tenders for the undermentioned works wereaccepred: — Ditching at, Stirling — Malcolm M'Kinlay, 6s 6d per chain. Metalling road at Stirling— William Watts, L 5 6s Gd per chain. Ditching, Inch Clutha Subdivision — Taylor Bros , 14s per chain. The following accounts were passed for payment : — William Watts, Lsl ; William Watts, L 3 15s ; John Cumine, survey, LlO ; Hugh M'Farlane, L 8 14s 6d ; George Harvey, L 2 14s ; Clutha Leader, L 5 2s 6d. The Clerk and Collector gave in his report in connection with the collection of rates during the past month. It was resolved to give ratepayers that are in arrears fourteen days to pay from the 27th October, after which the Clerk and Collector was authorised to take proceeding's for ihe recovery of the same. The Board adjourned till the last Saturday in November at 2 p.m.
