The Anglican Diocesan Synnd of Auckland was opened on Tuesday, last week. There was nothing particular in the Bishop's address of more than local interest. A telegram to the Lyttelton Times says there is likely to be a squabble about innovations in services. The " Priest, in Absolution" has caused a good deal of feeling lately, as some clergymen are suspected of "having a leaning in that direction. Col. Haultain, before the sitting rose, tabled the following notice of motion, which will be discussed some day during next week: — " That this Synod concurs in the following resolution of the Bishops in the Upper. House of Convocation of the Province of Canterbury, viz., that this House hereby expresses its strong condemnation of any practice of confession which can be thought to render such a book as the "' Priest in Absolution' necessary or expedient, and this Synod most respectfully tenders its hearty thanks to thei/Lordships for this expression of their opinion." A number of Chrisrch irch and Kaiapoi members of'the Episcopalian Church met at Kaiapoi to consider the recent decision of the Bench of Bishops in the Rev. Mr Carlyon's case, and carried resolutions to the following effect .-—That the whole of the proceedings in Oarlyon's case are opposed to every principle of justice, aud are calculated to bring discredit on the Church of New Zealand; that the doctrine of confession aud real presence as taught by Mr Carlyon are not contrary to the doctrine of the book of common prayer and the formularies of the Church ; that condemnation of these doctrines will lead to separation from the Mother Church ; that the Bench of Bishops be requested to define what is the doctrine of the Church of New Zealand regarding confession and the presence of our Lord in the eucharist,
