Wellington. Oct. 4. Ministers stated that they haW-not directly or indirectly promised the appointment of Agent-General to anyone, and that Avhen the vote came on they would state whether they would continue Sir 'J. Vogol'H services, if ho was willing. Mr Pyke's motion, for Otago Central Kailway, was carried by 37 to 21.
Dunewn, Oct. 4. At the Criminal Sessions to-day, George and Thomas King were found guilty of unlawfully killing a calf at Balclutha, and were sentenced to two months' imprisonment, with hard labour.
Charles Spurgeon, for uttering forged cheques, was sentenced to four years' penal servitude.
Charles John Pennycud, for forgery, was sentenced to imprisonment, with hard labour, for twelvo months.
John Walter Grieraon, for embezzlement, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, with hard labour.
