For the former, which were exception-' ally good, fully last week's rates were obtained —or say, equal 'to 27s Grt to 30s per 1001 d ; in* ferior to ordinary, made 22s (3d to 25s per 1001 b. JStillooks fetched from £8 Ms to £1,4 2s fld ; cows, £fi to £10 2s 6d. At tho yards, wo sold on account of Messrs Thomas Ayson and Carmiehaol Brothers, 52 head at equal to the.abovo quotations. Fat Sheep.— ->-The market wns ngain fully sup* plied, 2500 sheep, chiefly of very good quality, having been penned. With the exception of about 300, all found buyers at rates about equal to those ruling lnnt wpok for ordinary descriptions, and a shade higher for superior quality. At the yards wo sold, on account of Messrs H. R, and J.E. Parker, Waimate. a draft of 500 of their well-known " Horse-shoo " brand as follows, viz, :— 90 cross-bred wethers, at 17s 6d each ; G9 cross-bred ewes, at 15a fld ; aud 340 errand merino wethers, at 14.nl 6d each or equal ta 3d pet lb. . - Storo Cattle. — We have no transactions to re j port. The demand is apparently easier. Store Sheep. — Young cross-hrerls and merinos are wanted* but vei*y few are offering, as runholders object to disturbing thoir flocks at this season. Wo havo buyers for all descriptions. Country Sales. — On the 31st tilt, ami Ist insfc., we sold at Waipahi. on account of the trustees in the estate of James Black, 200 acros froeholfl at £7 per acre, subject to a mortgage of £400 , the lease of the Waipahi TTotol at £200 ; tho store and 91 acres, at JB78 ; 24 hoad cattle, at £2 5s to £4 7s fid each. Horses— 2 heavy draught mares, at £55 and ,€O4 ; two others at £14 and £17. 50 pigs, 20s each. Drays, ploughs, harrows, &c, at satisfactory prices ; also, stock-in-trade in store and hotel, <kc, &c. Property.— On the 4th instant, wo submitted to auction the Linburn Station, Maniototo district, comprising 80,000 acres leasehold (seven years unexpiied), 92 acres freehold, fmd 017 acres pre-emptive right, 25,000 sheep, 30 head cattle, and 12 horses, together with all improvements and station plant. Thero was a large attendanco at tho sale, aud the competition was spirited up to L 21,550, at which sum tho property was sold to Charles Turnbull, Esq. Wool. — The following telegram, under date London. Ist September, has been received hero since our last report : — Wool : Former rates aro maintained for good qualties ; inferior, lower. One hundred and six thousand bales woro catalogued, ani 10,000 bales were withdraw. French buyers aro operation cautiously, ani tho demand is somewhat abated. The market ia now quiet. Sheepskins. — There was an unusually largo attendance at oiir Monday's sale, but taken as a whole, the supplywas not equal in quality to a fair average. Prices wore, however, maintained, and we can report no important variation from late quotations. Hides.-'- Wo do not offer any, but at other sales no alteration iv figures was nofcicoablo. Tallow. — Fifteen packages of rough fat, and 11 casks and kegs inferior to ordinary rendered, were catalogued for sale on Monday, and sold at 21s to 20s Gd for the former, aud 27s to 30a for the latter. Good bright shipping samples are in request, and may be quoted at from 33s to 345. Grain. — For wheat the domand is weakor, and best samples cannot be quitted except at a considerable reduction from late quotations. Inferior and fowl foed, however, meet with ready sale at from 3s 9d to 4s 3d. Oats have not been dealt in to any extent during week. Quotations are without change, viz., 3s 2d to 3s 4d for fair to good feed, up to 3s 8d for milling and seed. Barley : We note au improved demand for malting samples, and somo few parcels have changed hands at from 4s to 4s 6d ; feeding descriptions from 3s 2d to 3s Gd. Mr A. Mercer reports for tho weok ending September 5, as follows : — Retail Prices.-— Fresh butter, in I and lib prints, Is to Is 2d ; favourite brands Is 4d. Fresh butter, iv lumps, Is ; powdered and salt butter, new season, Is. old, 9d to lOd per lb; fresh butter is very plentiful, and all this season tho grocers ai-e salting down large quantities, and with still their last seasons stock on hand they will have to refuse taking any more than they can dispose of, unless some market is opened up. Cheese, best quality, KM to Is. Side and rolled bacon, smoked or otherwise, 9d ; Colonial hams, Is ; English hams, Is 3d. Egcjs aro plentiful, and in good demand, at Is per dozon. The timber for re-planking the Matau Bridge is now being laid down, and tho work will be proceeded with without further delay.
