SOUTH MOLYNEUX.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Board's office on Thursday, 26th July. Members present : Messrs D. Henderson (Chairman), Jowitt, M'Lean, Paterson, Hay, Lees, Steven, and Melville. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved of. A letter was read from -Mr George Sutherland, Catlins River, stating that a meeting of ratepayers was held in the Schoolhouse, on the 23rd inst, for the purpose of appointing a member for nomination by the Board to represent the Catlins River Subdivision. Two gentlemen were uroposed, viz., Mr D. M'Kenzie and Mr Alfred Bradfield. Mr Sutherland also tendered his resignation to the Board as member for Cat-lin's-River Subdivision. Mr Sutherland's resignation was accepted, and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Lees, seconded by Mr Melville, that Alfred Bradfield and Daniel M'Kenzie be nominated members of the Board to represent the Catlins River Subdivision. A letter was read from the Treasury, Wellington, stating that the sum of L7l 6s lid had been remitted to the -credit of the Board at the National Bank of New Zealand, Balclutha, being the Board's share of the funds at the credit of the County of Clutha, under the 31st section of the Financial Arrangements Act, 1876. The Chairman stated he had written to the Colonial Treasurer asking if the L?l 6s lid received by the Board was part or a final payment of the sum (L 250) allocated by the County of Clutha to the Board, and had received an answer saying that the sum in question is the total share due the Board out of the fund referred to. It was resolved that Messrs Henderson and Jowitt be requested to bring the state of the County account before the County Council at its first meeting, and make arrangements for payment of the difference, and that no further liabilities be incurred on account of the Count}'- until the above gentlemen give in their report. The Inspector reported thatthebridge over the Puerua, known as Mercer's bridge, required new planking on the top. Clutha Road Board being liable for half the expense, the Clerk was instructed to write and ask that their Inspector examine the bridge referred to. It was resolved that the sum of LSO be expended on raising a portion of the Swamp Road, Waitepeka Subdivision. The Inspector was instructed to put an additional culvert on block road between the properties of Messrs Latimore and M'Lean, Ahuriri Subdivision. A letter was read from Scott and Co., Port Molyneux, making application to lease a portion ofthe township reserve, and offering 2s per acre per annum for the same. It was resolved that Messrs Jowitt, Henderson, and the Clerk draw out a form of agreement to lay before the Board at next meeting \ the Clerk to inform Messrs Scott and Co. that their offer is under consideration. The following* accounts were passed for payment : — G. Bain, Ll6 19s • Jas. Steven, L 2 10s; Fergusson and Mitchell., Ll 10s; Isaiah Potikia, Ll4 • Richard Crews, L 2 4; Mitchell Abernethy, L 7 14s. The Board then adjourned.
