TtKSEU7Ivi, Mr John Usid, v/Lo hay a, ten yours' lease of land on section 10, block 10, Awamoko, applied to have it extended, aa he intended sowing- it in English grass.— lt was found chat the lease has been in existence only four years, and the request was unanimously declined. Several transfers of reserves were sanctioned. The question of appointing an Inspector of Reserves to the Board was considered, the members being unanimously of opinion that such an officer was absolutely required. — -Ultimately the matter was postponed till July 10. APPLICATION FOR PENSION. Mr William M'Leliand, of the Tuapeka Mouth School, wrote intimating that ho found 'lis hearing was greatly failing; him, and tbar. he would shortly have to relinquish his position as a public teacher. His age next birthday would bo sixty-seven years. — The Chairman said Mr iVPLelland had been a very valuable servant to the Board, but unfortunately there was no provision I'mgranting annuities, — It. was resolved " That tne Board express its sympathy with Mr M'Lelland, and regrets that it has no means at its disposal to assist him, but they will refer his case to tho favourable consideration of the Government." REPAIRS. ETC. Claims for two- thirds of repairs were allowed as follows : — Green Island, LSO; Worth-east Harbour, LlO ; Waikouaiti, LlO' Myt-nss Bush, LS 10s* C E. vert-ham, L 33 Gk 3d ; Kaikovai, LB); .Roxburgh, LOG 13s 4d ; Grove Bush, LIS Os y<l ,* Limestovrn Plains. L 5. The Dunedin School. Committee applied for additional accommodation at the Middle -District. School in accordance with their resolution. — Resolved that the matter be considered when it is found that the building- is insufficient. ABPLTCATION FOR TE..CII ERS_ Myross Bush, sewing-teacher— declined until the attendance reach the requisite standard; Waitepeka, sewing teacher sanctioned; Greytown, sewingteacher — Inspector to report; Albany street, pupil-teacher sanctioned ; Queenstown, pupil-teacher sanctioned ; Wakarij schoolmistress — deferred for Inspector's report. STONEY CRE.SK. The Secretary stated that the average attendance at this echool was only eight out of twenty children. — The Board decided that tliey wonld not pay a master until the attendance ia rrearer. martin's bay. A letter was read from Air Jeremiah Dul?;oll, on behalf of settlers at Martin's Bay, applying for a schoolmaster and relating that there were sir toon children already there, '"and more making ready." — -The Board decided to grant a sideschool, with master at L 75, considering that the case was an exceptional ono. wai v UN A. Three acres of land was granted to this school in addition to glebe. THE high SCHOOL. The Minister of Justice wrote intimating that the Board's resolution re the High School and the specialising of the Board's reserves had been received and wouid be considered by the Government. — Bond, CLASSIFICATION OL' TEACIIEUS. Professor Shand brought i\\) a lengthy report on Iho examination and clar-siii-cation of teachers, but it was decided to adjourn the discussion till the special meeting, and in the meantime have the report printed for the use of members of the Board. NEW DRAWING MASTER. Mr fi utton stated that there were four applicants for the position of assistant drawing master, and he considered that of these Mr Xiobert Butter, of Brighton, was the only one that had a knowledge of mathematical drawing, and' he would therefore recommend that gentleman as stumble for the appointment. — The appointment was sanctioned. SAVINGS RANKS IN SCHOOLS. The Chairman asked if the members of the Board would like to express an opinion on Mr Dairy tuple's scheme of establishing Penny Savings Banks in schools. For himself, he thought the idea a very good one, as it would teach children habits of economy. " Mr Gillies said ha would not place obstacles in the way of any teachers' who might, give the matter a trial, but ho would' not compel, all teachers to undertake it. — Professor Shand thought perhaps teachers had enough to do already. — The Chairman then said he would allow the matter to drop. — Evening Star.
