SOUTH MOLYNEUX ROAD BOARD.
v~- — The monthly meeting of tlie South Molyneux Road Board was held in the Board's office on Thursday, May 31. Present : Messrs Henderson (Chairman), Jowitt, Johnston, Melville, Steven, Ironside, Brugh, Paterson, Christie, and Smith. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Alexander Balloon's application to get a road made to one of his sections was considered, and the following minute was passed: — "Resolved that Mr Balioeh having agreed to allow a continuation of said road through his property to the Bush reserve, and being v. illing io accept compensation at the rate of 20s per acre for the land required, the Board get a surveyor to lay off the road at once." Mr Jowitt reported that one of the bridges betwixt W. M'Lay's and M'Donald's, Ahuriri, wanted immediate repairs. Mr Smith was requested to attend to the matter. The Inspector was instructed to get the culverts at Puerua repaired, and to call for tenders for tlie same for next meeting.-' The Chairman read a circular from the Colonial Secretary, requesting to bo favoured with suggestions upon the question of a general Road Board law for the whole Colony. Resolved that the Chairman. Mr Jowitt, and the Clerk be appointed a committee to make what suggestion they think desirable, and reply. A letter was read from James Miller, Port Molyneux, stating that the block road to his pi^yperty was impassable for a dray, and offering to make it for the sum of L 3. Mr Miller's offer was accepted. A letter was read from the Colonial Treasurer (in answer to one from the Clerk), stating that a cheque, value LIGS 19s 4d, had been posted on the 12th May to the Board's account. Tho Chairman stated that the same had been placed to the credit of the district fund at the Bank. Eight tenders were received for contract No. 4 (County). George Ballooh's tender was accepted, amount L 39 19s 6d. Five tenders were received for contract No. 112, Ahuriri subdivision. Mitchell Abernethy's tender was accepted, amount L 24. Five tenders were received for contract No. 114, Ahuriri subdivision. Isaiah Potiki's tender was accepted, amount Ll4. The Clerk was instructed to call for tenders to fill the following offices for the Board ; — Clerk and Collector, Inspector t of Works, and Valuator. The following accounts were passed for payment : — Robert Wilson, for finishing contract No. 110, Port Molyneux subdivision, L 2 5; Clutha Leader, L 4; D. M'Laren, Ll 10s; Robert Inglis, Ll ; Fergusson and Mitchell, 12s lOd ; John Allison, Ll 10s. Mr Paterson and the Clerk were appointed to represent the Board at the Assessment Court to be held at Whytock's hotel, Puerua, on Saturday, 2nd June. The Board then adjourned.
