9> Mr Waddell, the new teacher at Warepa, has commenced evening 1 classes, ■which are regarded as a great boon in the district. In Balclutha, for example, there is much need for such classes being established. We have heard both parents and youths express themselves sb. In a country such as this, where labour is so highly remunerated, there is a great temptation to remove beys from school before they have received anything 1 like a good education. But the hours of labour are short, and thus young men have much leisure time upon their hands, which we know most of them would most willingly devote to supplementing their meagre education if an opportunity were provided. We see that teachers in other towns and also country districts readily come forward to the performance of this duty, and we have uo doubt they would do the same here. We commend the matter to the consideration of 'he Athen»um Committee.
