WASTE LANDS BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was hold on Wednesday : present — Messrs Maitland (in the chair), Butterworth, Strode, Clarke, and Green.
Mr Neil M'Leocl applied to be allowed to purchase section 48, block 3, Dunedin and East Taieri District, at Ll per acre, the present lessee not having fulfilled conditions mentioned in lease in reference to occupation of said land in manufacture of flax. Refused, and referred to ranger for report as to whether conditions of lease as to flaxdressing have been complied with. The Chief Commissioner brought before the Board a number of mining leases for cancellation. The same were cancelled accordingly.
The application by James and John Sutherland to purchase at Ll per acre sections 30 and 36, block G, Table Hill district, Was granted subject to Warden's limitation.
The Chief Surveyor transmitted sketch and report by Mr Hall, surveyor on the gold workings at Waikawa, and estimated the area of the proposed goldfield at 2000 acres. Report and plan approved, and Chief Commissioner requested to transmit for consideration of Government.
•Mr G. S. Brodrick, on behalf of himself and other lessees at Preservation Inlet, asked the Board to consider his request for refund of fees paid to Government. Request declined.
The Chief Surveyor 'recommended that several allotments of land in Glenkenich Hundred be declared of special value under the 85th clause of the Waste Land Act 1872, the land having been improved by fencing ; survey and compensation paid to the runholder, and offered at auction. — Approved.
