BALCLUTHA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Balclutha School Committee wa3 held in the schoolroom on Monday evening. There were present : Messrs J. M'Neil (chairman), Dunne, Paterson, Robertson, Stewart, and- Hogg. Tho minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The committees appointed at last meeting to examine and report upon the repairs required upon the school building and fences, the state of the ground, &c. , explained that nothing had j*et been done, but the various matters referred to them would be' reported upon at next meeting. Mr Robertson referred to the matter" of the levelling of the ground, and suggested that an exchange should be made of a portion of the play grounds for a part occupied by the teacher, so that the same might be ploughed, levelled, and. sown down in grass. He thought that was the only course that could be adopted so aa to secure satisfaction with economy. Mr Grigor said he was quite agreeable to make the exchange proposed. After a conversation^T-the matter was left in the hands of the Committee for consideration and report. Mr Grigor submitted list of fses for last year still unpaid, and instructions were given regarding the same.

In reply to a question by the Chairman, the Secretary said he had written to the Education Boa,rd, making application for £40, b'iing two-thirds of the sum expended in repairs upon the building, but that his application was too late for the claim being brought before last meeting of the Board.

An account from Mrs Stephenson, for cleaning school, £2, was passed for pay-

ment,

There was no other business.
