* The following is the result of the shooting at Hokitika. Afc the beginning of the final match, Richardson, of Otago, was 15 points ahead, but it was discovered some scoundrel had tampered with his rifle, and he lost ground in consequence. The highest aggregate scorer in the six matches is the Champion Rifle Shot of New Zealand for the year 1877 : — Ist highest aggregate scorer, the Rifle Champion Belt (to be worn be the winner till the next competition), gold medal and £40 — Lieutenant Paynter, Stoke Rifles (Nelson) 373 2nd highest aggregate scorer, N.R. A. silver medal and £15—Richardson, North Dunedin Rifles 370 3rd highest aggregate scorer, gold and silver medal and £12—Sergeant A cheson, Riverton Rifles 361 4th highest aggregate scorer, gold and silver medal and 4510 — J. C. Anderson, No. 1 Olutha Rifles 361 sth highest aggregate scorer, £8 — Sub-Lieutenant Willocks, No. 1 Clutha Rifles 360 6th highest aggregate scorer, £5— J. Keefe, Tauranga Rifles 359 Mellson, Waiuku 359 Yates, Auckland 357 Smith, Dunedin ... ... ... 355 Sergeant Kings Oamaru 354 Davis, Westland 351 Chapman, Canterbury 349 Campbell, A. C 348 The visual match between the North and South leading representatives took place afterwards, when the respective scores were : Southern team, 3509 ; Northern, 3491.
