CLUTHA COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING.
TO THE EDITOR. ■ Sir —In your report of the above, you make the following statement : " that, seven voted for Balclutha as county, town —Mr Scott. only" being on the contrary. As I did not vote, and to my kuowledge others besides, your insertion of this will oblige.-- 1 am, &c, . "' R. SCOBIE; Clinton, Jan.,8, 1577. .' [When the meeting was' ready for -the vote, the Chairman put the question thus : » All in favour of the motion ' say Aye;" to which a chorus of voices responded. ..He, then called, for "on the' contrary," when Mr Scott alone said No.. If Mr Scobie did not vote with the' ayes, he certainly did not record liis vote with the noes'; neither did he oppose the motion, nov give the slightest hint of his -intention not to vote. The impression' therefore was that he. was in favour of and voted for the motion. His explanation as to his having adopted a neutral -. course, however, is sufficient.— £d. C. I/.] ...
