SHORT NOTES.

: I observe most shameful accounts to hand of. the state of the lunatic asylum at. Nelson as regards accommodation. To thrust a man suffVring from the highly dangerous disease of delirium iremens into a cell some six feet square, and leave him there alone for many hours, seems almost equivalent to manslaughter. A hospital is a more fitting place for such a patient. It would seem well that at present there should only exist two lunatic asylums, one in the north,, and one in the middle island.

The Turnpike Ordinance surely requires immediate amendment. The charges at present paid by waggoners are beyond all conscience and justice.
