Seconded by Mr Marshall and agreed to. A letter -was read from the General Government re subsidy, stating that the 'subsidy granted, l&s 4d in the £, by the General Government was being paid on rates collected year 1874-75, and as there. were no rates collected by the Board in ! that 'year they could not participate in • he grant. , It was pointed out" that the subsidy was. always hitherto paid on rates coflected on, the year the subsidy whs paid, and by the. (jleneral Government departing from that rule the Board would lose the subsidy on this year's rates. It was also mentioned that- the 'General Government had made some mistake in paying; the subsidy on rates collected year 1874-75, as by doing so they were paying twice subsidy on one year's rates, as ilie Provincial Government oh be"half of the General Government paid a subsidy of 15s in the L. on rates collected year 1874-575. The 'Clerk was instructed to write to the Colonial Treasury, drawing his attention to the position- ; of the Board by the subsidy being jvaid on last year's rates, instead of , the rates of the present year as was formerly the practice in paying 1 the subsidies; The returning 1 members are James Smith, Waitahuna Wusfc Subdivision, and Robert Paterson ? Hillend Subdivision. Mr Begg moved that Alexander Nelson be appointed returning 1 officer. Seconded by Mr Marshall, Agreed to. The meeting; then adjourned.
