TOWN COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Balclutha Town Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. There were present his Worship the Mayor, Councillors Mason, Dunne, Kilgour, Hope, and Hogg. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.
A letter was read from Messrs Potter and Doull, calling attention to the state of Hasborough Place. The outlay in road formation there had hitherto been paid chiefly by a private individual, and the Council had been at very little expense in the matter. Now that they (Messrs Porter and Doull) were about to start a saw-mill adjoining the flourmill, the road formation was too narrow for the traffic, and they trusted the Couhcil would examine into the matter and do what was necessary for the accommodation of the traffic without delay.
His Worship and the Councillors present expressed their satisfaction at the starting of such industries in the township, and their desire to facilitate them by every means in their power. The letter was referred to the Works Committee, with power to have done what was necessary in the matter. An account, A Davidson, half-year's salary, &c, £11 7s; and another, Seaton Porter, for work at Cemetery^ £4 13s 6d, were passed for payment. Tenders for the 80-acre reserve were opened, and the highest, that of Joseph Robertson, £36 ss, was accepted. The Clerk was instructed to call for applications for the oflice of valuator for the Municipality for the ensuing year — salary, £10.
There was no other business before the meeting.
