RIFLE MATCH.

NO. 1 CLUTHA RIFLES V. NO. 1 CITY GUARDS, DUNEDIN. A rifle match between the No. 1 Clutha Rifles and the City Guards, Dunedin, took place at the Balclutha bntts, on Friday morning-. The ranges were 200, 400, and 500 yards. The weather was most favorable, and barring a slight accident, everything passed off well. In the accident, Mr Dall, ot Tokomairiro, was the sufferer. When standing in the butts, he was struck by a splinter, which inflicted a severe wound on the left cheek. He went into the township and had it dressed, after which he returned to the butts, so that the injury was not serious. It will be seen by the result of the scores that the Clutha Rifles secured a victory by 14 points. The match seems to have been a very fair trial of skill, as it was fired on the "No. 2 Company's range at Balclutha, which was straog-e ground both to the City Guards and the No. 1 Clutha Rifles, but the Clutha Rifles appeared to considerable disadvantage,' as two of its best shots were prevented from taking their usual place in the team. At the close of the match, the defeated visitors were entertained to a champagne luncheon at the Crown Hotel. The following were the scores :—
