AUCTION REPORTS.

Grigob, Maitlakd &co. report having held a large sale of horses on 21st October, at Mr Rv darke'a farm Hillend •* — Although the day was cold, the attendance was tramerous. About 20 heavy draught horses "were disposed of, averaging from £30 to £79. We sold a few draught colta at from £16 to £36. 3 drays averaged from £11 to £17. Farming implements realised satisfactory rates, "We also sold at our yards, on 22nd October, on account of Wm. Griffith, Esq., and others, from 70 to 80 head store Cattle, realising from _J4 to £6 17s 9d per head, also 1 cow realised the the handsome figure of £15. We sold buggy and harness which brought £59. Also horse buggy and harness for £74. We beg to draw attention to our sale at Clinton, on Wednesday, 27th inst. , •whore a superior and large lot of fat and store «attle, horses, &., will be offered. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report : - Fat Cattt.k. — A moderate number came forward, 92 head beine yarded, mostly of prime quality. We sold 14 head of cows at from £11 10s to £13, or equal to 42s 6d per lOOlbs for prime quality, and 34s for medium ditto. Fat Calves,— lo head came forward, and sold readily at 30s to 50s each. Fat Sheep. — The number penned, 650, was "scarcely adequate to the wants of the trade, and prices advanced in consequence fully 2s per head. We quote prime mutton, 4f per lb. We delivered to the trade 750 previously contracted for, and sold 350 privately at 18s. Stoke Cattle. —There is an active demand for grown cattle, but we have no transactions to report. ... Store Sheep.— The business doing in this class of stock is very limited, and is not likely to increase till after shearing. We sold 1300 merino ewe 3, full mouthed, with cross-bred lambs at foot, at 9s 6d each, and 300 four-tooth merino rams, on account of the executors of the late Wi ' A. "xolmie, Esq., at £3 3s each. Houses.— The demand for heavy draughts is a little more active, and strong coach or cab horses are in fair request. We quote first class draughts at fmm £o'> to £75 ; medium ditto, £40 to £55 ; light ditto, £25 to £35 ; good hacks and » light harness horses, £25 to L3O ; medium ditto, £14 to £20 ; b'srht and inferior £5 to £7. Wool.— The telegrams received merely confirm advices already to hand of an average de■eline of from lid to 2d per lb. The wool sales have been fixed for the 23rd November. Sheepskins. -At our weekly sale we disposed of a considerable quantity at prices about equal to last week's rates. Butchers' green skins, half-breds, brought from 5s 7dto 6s Id ; merinos 4s Id to 4s lOd each ; station skins, is 4d to 5s Sd each, and 7d to 8d per lb. Hides are in fair demand, and meet with ready sale at prices about equal to 4d per lb for well conditioned lots. We sold at our weekly sale medium weights at from 16s to 18s 3d each ; calfskins at 1 « 9d each.

Grain. — We cannot report any change in ■market values. Wheat — prime samples are •worth 4s 6d to 4s 7d ; medium, 4s 'Ad to 43 4d. •Oats are dull *.f sale ; feed, 2s 4d to 2s sd, up to 2s 6d for milling. Barley — prime malting worth Tte 6d per bushel ; inferior difficult to quit.

Mr Henry Driver, on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, reports : — Fat Cattle. —As only a small quantity of 80 •head were yard*nl, prices realised showed an improvement on !at,e quotations, best bullocks bringing up to £19 5s ; ditto cows £15 each, or equal to 4ns per 1001 b, for prime quality. At the yards -we sold 50 head, including a draft on account of Messrs M'DonaM and Doring, which were bred 'and fattened by John Grigg, Esq.. of Longbeach, Aahburton, Canterbury. These ware the best ■cattle that have been in the yards for many months p-vt. nnd, considering the very long •drive, were** in splendid condition, and averaged £17 6s 6*l par head. We have also sold 50 head on private terms. Fat Calves. — Only a few weTe penned, r^nd sold up to -j^s, according to weight and quality. Fat Sheep. — The small supply of 650 crossbreds caused a further advance in prices, best quality bringing from 23s to 23s 6d. At the yards we sold 600, and have placed 600 privately. Wequot" prime quality cross-breds at 4-§ to 4fd. Fat Lambs. —The first lambs of the season •were penned to-day by Messrs. M 'Donald and Doring, consisting of 60 very prime quality, bred ■and fattened by F. D. Rich, Esq., of Bushy Park, and which we sold at 13s. STORE Cattle. — A good inquiry continues for •cattle over two years old for paddock grasing, best aged bullocks being worth £6 10 to £X; ditto cows, from £3 l**s to £5. We havo sold 100 in small lots during the week. Store Sheef. — "No transactions for sheep deliverable in the wool. We are however, in treaty for very large lots for delivery after shearing. Wool. — By the Omeo we have received from our London branch the following cablegram :— "The sales closed firmly at an average decline of Itd to 2d, 20,000 bales have been held over for future disposal ; 15.000 have been withdrawn during the past sales. 120,000 bales have been taken for export. Continental demand is limited. Trade in the manufacturing districts •unchanged. The Next sales will commence on 23rd November."

Sheepskins. — At our usual weekly sale, on Thursday last, prices ruled without much alteration, a little in favour of buyers. Green crossbreds, 5s lOd to 5s lid ;merinos, 4s 6d to 4s 9d ; dry cross-breds, 4s lid to 5s 6d ; merinos 2s 9d to "4s Id ; station skins, 6f dto 7£d per lb. Hides are in good demand at 4d per lb for •wet-salted in good condition, and as the Melbourne market has improved, we may look for a .corresponding improvement here for all in shipping order. Gro.en hides sold at 20s to 21s 6d. _ Tallow. — We sold several lots of very inferior •at 20s to 23s 3d ; rough fat, at 17s to IBs. The London market having again advanced, good ehippins tallow would bring buyers at £34. Grain. — The wheat market is unchanged. ♦Fair milling samples meet a good demand at 4s 6d per bushel ; inferior, for fowls' food, up to 4s, Oats are eaiser, large supplies being forwarded "by rail wav ; sales are difficultat lowerqnotations, gay 2s 5d to 2s 6d. Latest advices from Melbourne quote the market very dull ; small sales at 3s 3d to 3s 4d, and sales slow. Barley.— We placed 2,000 bushels good malting at 5s sd, and nave some prime seed to offer from Lake Waka•tip. I A. Cheese of the best quality is very scarce, and retailing Is 2d per lb. Side and rolled bacon, smoked or green. Is Id to ls 2d per lb. Colonial hams, ls 3d ; English hams, ls 6d to Is 8d per lb ; beef hams, lOd ; eggs are in good demand and plentiful, and retailing at ls 6d per dozen. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) furnishes the following produce teiesjrams :— London 2nd October, 1875. The market is quiet for wheat— stocks heavy. Adelaide is worth 44s per 496 lbs, New Zealand, 52e. AUCKLAND. Mr Buokland reports :—Fat cattle*, 2s 6d per 1001 blower; fat sheep, steady inquiry—shorn, 3-Jd per lb ; fat cattle, 30s to 32s 6d per 1001 b. ■ Mr Binney reports that the local millers haveraised the price of flour to £14. Christchurch is still quoted at £11 to £11 10s; Dunedin, £12; the market is well stocked, only small lines Are selling. Wheat, 4s 9d to ss; oats, 2s lid; barley, 4s; bran, ss; pollard, 6s ; large line of Fiji maize (forced on the market,) sold 3s to 33 id; oatmeal, £16; pearl barley, £26; butter, is; cheese, lOd tols 2d ; hams and bacon, Is. The market is overstocked with all kinds of produce; business is very quiet. It is impossible to effect sales except in small parcels.
