AUCTION REPORTS.
Messrs Capstick, Duthie and Co., report : — Sheep. — 800 cross-bred ewes at 41s ; 260 twotooth cross-bred ewes, in lamb, at 13s 6d ; 300 broken-mouth merino ewes, in lamb, at 3s 3d, Cattle. — Store cattle, 100 head at L 5 each, at our yards, on Thursday, the 12th instant ; 2 fat cows brought LlO each ; 4 store heifers, L 6 5s each. Horses.— We have passed a few draughts through our hands at LSO for heavy ; medium draughts from L 32 10s to L 35 each. Grain. • We quote wheat, good samples,. 4s 4§ to 4s 6d ; fowls' feed, 4s per bushel ; oats, 2s 4d to 2s 6d ; barley, first-class malting, 53 6d per bushel. Perennial rye-grass seed, 3 years cut, at 7s ; other samples from 4s 6d to 5s per bushel. Italian rye-grass, 7s per bushel. > Potatoes.— Ls per ton (ready sale). Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. report : — Pat Cattle. — 180 head -were yarded, a number quite adequate to the wants of the trade. We ; sold 98 bead on account of Messrs Orbell and I Miller, Little Brothers, George Wallace, and F. j Manson. Best beef brought from 40s to 45s per 1001 b ; medium ditto, 335. Fat Calves.— Only a few were yarded, which sold at from 35s to 70s each. Fat Sheep. — The number that came forward was in • excess of the demand* 1,500 were penned, mostly half-breds. We sold 275 crossbred?, medium quality, at from 15s 3d to 16s 3d. We also sold privately, for delivery in town, 150 very prime merino wethers, from Messrs H. 8.. and Ji E. Parker, Waimate, at 19s 3d each, and 1,200 merino wethers at from 9s to lis. During- the week we*delivered to ithe trade 900 cross-breds. We quote prime quality mutton 4d to 4jd per lb. Store Cattle and Store Sheep.— We have no transactions to report. Horses. — In the absence of fresh lots, the business transacted has qeen chiefly in dealers' horses. On Saturday next, the 21st instant, we shall offer at our yards a very superior shipment pf heavy draught mares and geldings, ex. Omeo, from Melbourne. We quote first-class draughts, L 65 to L 75; medium ditto, L 45 to LSO ; light uitto, L 25 to L3O ; good hacks . and light harness horses, L 25 ta L3O ; medium ditto; Lls to L2O • light and inferior,?«s to LlO. Sheepskins.— -Our weekly sale was well attended by buyers. The quantity offered was small, and brought full rates, viz..:— Butchers' green skins, half-breds, 5s 5d to 6s 4d ; merinos, 4s 3d to. 4s 9d} station skins, 2s Id to ss^9d j pelts, 8d to Is 9d. . Hides. — We sold medium, weights at from 18s 6d to 22s 9d ; calfskins, 2s -lid each. We quote well conditioned lots of hides at about 4d per lb. • Grain.— Wheat remains firm, but we cannot quote any alteration in value. Prime milling is worth 4s 6d to. 4s 7d ; medium, 4s 2d to 4s 4d - fowls' feed, 3s 9d to 4s.- Oats are in good demand for shipment. We quitted during the week 2,000 bags at the following rates ;— Feed, 2s 8d; milling samples, 2s 9d to 2s lOd per bushel. Barley: Prime malting is worth 5s 6d to 5s 9d * inferior, 4s to 4s 6d per bushel. Melbourne. The 'Argus' of the 7th # reports :—" ln the import market husiness is without any animation. No enquiry of a general character is reported, andythe few sales making are limited to one or. two specialties now ln| favour,' Breadstuff's are without alteration, and for ' any, business recorded very full fates are' yet obtained.
