There were two candidates— Mr Reeves . and Mr Walter. But little excitement was manifested during the day, owing to the cold and inclement state bf the wt ather. Walter beat his opponent in every Ward. , The following is the result :— Walter - - 1048 Reeves - . ■.*. 682 Majority. for Walter „. - 366 Mr Reeves attributed his defeat to Mr Walter having contested the Mayoralty last year, and to his seniority as a Councillor.
